Welcome to the IST Petitioners Association.
At this time, the Japanese immigration laws do not permit its
citizens to have dual or multiple citizenships.
We are proposing that Japanese law regarding citizenship be revised
so that an individual would be able to legally hold dual or multiple
citizenships.
This is to alleviate problems for families who face difficulties
simply because they are foreign citizens and for the children
who already have dual or multi citizenships.
Specifically, we are requesting that the law be revised so that
(1) non-Japanese nationals living in Japan,
(2) Japanese citizens residing abroad, and
(3) children who already have multiple citizenships, who wish
to keep them after coming of age, are able to legally acquire
dual or multiple citizenships.
To this end, we will submit petitions to the Diet, and widely
over the Web.
In addition, we hope to appeal to the mass media when the opportunity
arises.
We are expecting that it will take several years before the Diet
comes to approve of our petition, as we are not expecting the
petition to draw much attention.
In addition, the current small number of active participants
limits our ability to do very much.
Therefore, it is important to find more members.
We would like to develop a pleasant atmosphere congenial to fostering
effective teamwork in order to keep this campaign long lasting,
and ultimately accomplishing our aim.
Also, we would like to keep this as enjoyable as possible.
We are seeking to develop an innovative worldwide network through
basing our activities on the net and by making full use of the
electronic mailing list as a tool for communication and exchanging
information.
We are asking people of varying interests and levels of commitment
to join us: we welcome those who can provide actual service,
who can help with collecting signatures for the petition, who
can come up with ideas, who may not do anything, but encourage
us, and finally, those who are simply interested.
We want to make our group a useful place, a place to exchange
information and ideas.
It is even possible that we request something more than making
dual or multi-citizenship legal.
We would like to thank you in advance for your kind cooperation
and look forward to your joining with this association in attaining
its positive and much needed goals.
